Under Your Thumb

You won’t find any modern technology on this car to ruin the pure driving experience that only one of the best Mustangs ever made can offer. No traction control, no ABS, and nothing to save you should be the motto of this car. If you want to drive one of these you better buck up and grow a beard. This was an era when cars had to be manhandled and driven.

Retro Rocket

GT350R versions of the already fast GT350 were no joke. Powered by a 289 cubic inch V8, they were capable of producing 360bhp that only had to push a car weighing 2,500lbs. There’s no beating around the bush: this is fast by modern standards. And, with a power to weight ratio that had to deal with 15x7” wheels, it would have been an exciting drive, to say the least.

Pricing and Updates

At $250,000, the new old GT350R is a bargain compared to the old old prices that approach almost $1,000,000 at auctions. Upgrades to the new car include Peter Brock’s input to use plexiglass windows and convert the rear suspension to a fully independent unit. The later modification is likely to transform the entire car into something that is much faster around a track than the original ever was!

Why it’s Cool

Other than the obvious fact that there is nothing cooler than a 1965 Mustang, this car is an opportunity for someone to move away from the quarter million dollar market that has become flooded with boring cars. Yes, boring cars. It all comes down to electronics that remove the car’s personality. Sure, you can shut some off, but there are still many other electronic systems (throttle pedals for example) that feel a certain way because they are electronically controlled. This car does away with all of that which makes it worth every penny of the asking price.

Bummer Dude

Only 36 examples will be produced which is kind of a bummer if you’re really into the GT350R. These cars should be mass produced for anyone with the money on a case by case basis because it’s exactly what the world needs. The EPA may disagree, but going backward is actually a step forward in this instance.
