V8 Classic

If 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque sounds good to you then you’re in the right place. At $50,000 the Ford Mustang GT packs a punch that strikes well above its weight class given the price tag. Torque comes on low and strong and stays flat throughout most of the rev range which is exactly what you want from a modern V8. Same power as the Chevy…much cheaper! Score!

B-M-Who?

Ford has taken a turn in recent years and elevated the Stang to compete with European manufacturers like BMW and Audi. American cars are coming a long way and this reflects in the aggressive styling offered from both of these cars. Chevrolet gains some ground as far as exterior styling, but the Mustang GT stays strong and looks properly aggressive.

Drop the Ball

Where Ford does fall slightly short compared to Chevrolet is in the weight department with the Grand Sport clocking in a few hundred pounds under the GT. This, coupled with the front strut style suspension (as compared to Corvettes short long arm at all four corners) will see the Mustang suffer at the track and on backroads when pushed to the limit. Is the Grand Sport worth the extra cash? Not in my opinion!

Interior

Material quality in both of these cars has been lacking, to say the least in recent years, but the design of the Mustang GT’s interior has come a long way. I would go as far to say it looks refined compared to the GS where the Vette looks a little more driver-focused at the expense of overall design quality.

Which is better?

While it is almost certain the Grand Sport is faster at the track that is not what these cars are bought for 98% of the time. As road-going vehicles, the Mustang GT has entered within striking distance of higher-end models like Chevrolet’s Corvette and even some European marks. It definitely has the speed to boot and is a forced to be reckoned with in 2018.
