Before the 2005 Mustang came to showrooms and driveways, it started as a sketch. Several sketches in fact. Team Mustang took inspiration from the best Mustangs of the 1960s and 1970s and went from there. Here are a few sketches from 2005 Mustang Lead Designer Sid Ramnarace, Ford, students from the Center for Creative Studies (now College of Creative Studies), who presented a Mustang-sponsored project to designers at Ford, and car magazines' authors.

After the team decides on a sketch or two, they proceed to create clay models to get a life-size feel of the car's proportions.
