Dream Car

Ovind Bredesen had a dream that ever since he was a kid, he had his eyes on a 1966-68 Mustang. With a successful business and the kids all grown up and out of the house, that dream came in the form of a Mustang fastback. When he finally got the chance to sit in a 66’ and thought that there wasn’t enough legroom, he decided on a 1967 Mustang due to its roomier cockpit.

Rare Breed

However, finding a 1967 Mustang GTA is not an easy thing to do.  Finding a rare, year specific, American car (the GTA was only available in 1967) is even harder when you’re in Northern Europe.  After a two-year quest, Bredesen found his 1967 Mustang GTA in Central Norway.  The car came equipped with a 351 Cleveland engine with a C6 transmission. The Mustang was a reliable ride and performed great as a daily driver.  In 2014, Bredesen decided to get some bodywork done and do some upgrades to the engine.

Plugging the Holes

Bredesen sent his ride to Raholt, Norway for a fresh coat of paint and add some TLC for the interior.  Arfinn Tomte AT body shop disassembled the car for some routine restoration and discovered how deeply the ravages of time had dug.  The car’s metal body was sadly falling apart with numerous reducing the Mustang into a piece of rusty Swiss cheese. These flaws had been patched with filler and sanded down and painted so skillfully that Bredesen had no idea of the amount of deterioration the vehicle had.

Long Road Home

The 1967 Mustang GTA was stripped down to its core so that the team could see all the flaws it had.  Bredesen soon learned that although new replacement parts can be made, getting those things to fit isn’t so easy.  When the years of bodywork was finally over, the attention shifted to getting the motor where Bredesen wanted. The 351 Cleveland was replaced with a massive 427ci stroker crate engine with an Eagle 4.17-inch-stroke crankshaft, Eagle rods and ported Edelbrock aluminum heads.  The end result pushes out a staggering 490 horsepower of classic fury.

Show Stopper

After five long years and untold sums of money, Ovind Bredesen finally has the car of his dreams.  He unveiled the 1967 Ford Mustang GTA at the 2019 Mustang Nationals Speed Week in Elverum, Norway.  The beautifully restored Mustang has gone onto win a long list of Top Ten car awards in Northern Europe.
