Brett Madsen's Incredible Raced Out Stang

Madsen doesn’t screw around. A Cam-C class SCCA National Champion he know’s about 2 things: accounts receivable and kicking your ass at autocrosses around the country. Here’s are the highlights

By Christopher Hurst - October 17, 2017

600 horsepower

When he first bought the car in 2010 it had a stock 4.6L 2 valve that’s been chucked in favor of an MMR 600 short block. MHS supplies a pair of ported heads and 4.5 Bullet Cams. Brett’s aim is to compete in the American Muscle Cup Racing Series Unlimited Class so he’s gunning for massive power in his setup this year. With a weight of 2200 lbs (not a typo). This car will have plenty of power and with no weight to push around plenty of speed to boot.

Maximum CorteX.

Maximum Motorsports and CorteX provide almost every single essential to keep this racehorse in control and ahead of the pack. JRi single adjustable coilovers with custom spring rates are just part of the package. The car features offset A-arms and race spec lower control arms along with an adjustable rear sway bar. Solid steering rack bushings give the feedback needed to rail through corners while an FTR 14” GT500 brake kit brings things to a halt. Pads are Porterfield R4-1s.

Wheels and Tires

To get all this power to the ground Brett doesn’t mess around. This car runs on street tires if you can believe that. Up front are 18x11 305 Aero Wheels with 315/30/18 BF Goodrich Rival S tires. The rear setup runs a wider 18x12 with a 335/30/18 section of the same tire. Rival S tires have been class winners for years so it doesn’t come as a surprise to see them on this build. At this particular event, the car was running on an Avon slick.

That Body…

The exterior is one of the sickest Stang’s you can lay your eyes on. Roush takes care of the front bumper, side skirts and rear valances while aggressive Maier racing fender flares and a rear spoiler round out the look and keep the car function at speed. This really has to be one of the best looking Mustangs out there.

Clutchless Manual

Bang out gears and disappear! Madsen uses a T45 dog box transmission that doesn’t require the use of his left foot to row up and down the gears. This saves time and allows the car to put the power down that fraction of a second faster than a traditional manual.

Time to Attack

Time attack requires aerodynamics to be addressed in some form or another. When I asked what his plans were, his response was simply, “a big wing, a big splitter, a big diffuser, canards, etc.” Sounds about right. When you look at the laundry list of great parts used on this car I’m sure the aerodynamics will be addressed and he was simply being cagey with the details.

Keep up with him

To see some videos of the car, check out Brett’s YouTube channel called BTMAutoSport. He has some cool onboard videos of Autocrossing and track day driving. The car prior to this year was producing about 388 whp which is fast given how little it weighs. When he gets that 600 whp it’s going to be one hell of a machine to watch. We wish him well and hope you enjoyed this article! See ya!
