Check Out the First-Ever Shelby GT500 Convertible

This particular model is steeped in history, with Engineering even experimenting with fuel injection on its engine. And it's as clean as it'll ever get thanks to its rotisserie restoration this year.

Restoration

This 1968 Shelby GT500 Convertible looks like it rolled off the production line yesterday. Its wonderful condition is all down to a rotisserie restoration that was completed in 2019. And if you have some spare cash lying around it could be yours because it's up for auction.

Rare

This was the very first Shelby GT500 Convertible produced and was finished in September 1967. It's one of 402 1968 GT500 Convertibles, and one of just two fitted with a Paxton supercharger evaluated by Shelby.

Drivetrain

Propelling this classic is a supercharged 428 ci Cobra Jet V8. The engineering department experimented with fuel injection on this unit, but it's now fitted with Holly carburetors. All the power runs through a C6 automatic transmission.

Interior

Informing the driver of the alternator, oil pressure, Paxton pressure, and fuel is a four-gauge console. And keeping you secure in the event of a collision are Shelby seatbelts.

Company Car

Take a moment and imagine that this was your company car. For Ford liaison, Ray Geddes, this was a reality. He used it to work with Engineering in Livonia, Michigan.

Weels

This GT500 rides on Goodyear Polyglas White letter tires. These are wrapped around stamped steel date coded wheels. To top it off, this model comes with NOS hub caps in their box.

The Paperwork

As you would hope, this car comes with a deluxe Marti report, its Shelby Automotive invoice, and a Sale of Assets document. It also received a Gold Award at SAAC 44 Concours in 2019 and has documentation proving this.
