Classic Mustang Gets Restomoded with Ferrari Heart

Tony Arme, best known for his work with American Legends Hotrods and Muscle Cars had an idea to create a different kind of 1968 Mustang 14 years ago. This is the result of the thousands upon thousands of hours that he has put into the car.

Let’s get right to it – the engine!

Underneath the stock 67/68 Mustang GT hood is a Ferrari 4.3 liter F136 from a F430 engine. A Ferrari California intake manifold was specially sourced so that Arme could locate the 92MM throttle bodies in the correct position for the front-engine application. Dual Nelson Racing T-4 turbochargers were outfitted for extra horsepower and an MS3Pro ECU is used to manage the custom transformation. For those curious, a Tremec T6 transmission was used because of its strength and durability, with Arme topping it off with an S1 Sequential Shifter to make shifts a little quicker than the more common H-pattern would allow. All told, you’re looking at an engine capable of producing a whopping 550 HP.

Okay, now let’s look at the rest of the mods – first, the body

One of the first things Arme did was a 2.5″ chop of the roof. And now, while he chose to keep the front flush-mounted windshield at its factory angle, he instead chose to lay down the rear with flush-mounted glass. Additional body updates include shaving the emblems as well as the door handles, cowl vent and moldings. Acrylic was used in the doors, all of which, it’s worth noting, are vent-free.

Once he started, he couldn’t stop

As Arme worked the body over, he wound up touching nearly all of its components. An “Eleanor” front bumper piece was used upfront, but it was largely worked over, with 3D-printed air intakes to work with its Eleanor-style side skirt. The way Arme worked it over, the car's skirts flow into the widened wheel well openings and rear quarter extensions, all of which are flush with the molded custom (obvi) rear bumper. The reclining rear deck-lid spoiler was also handcrafted out of steel on an English wheel.

How is he supporting all of this raw power?

Arme had a full RideTech air suspension, which includes their “Shockwaves”, outfitted to the body. It features a mirror-like custom mixed BASF Glasurit paint, a color that nicely complements the car’s 18″ Avant Garde F461 wheels wrapped in Toyo R888R tires. To bring the car to a halt, Arm went with Wilwood brakes on yellow calipers.

Take a look inside

An entire slideshow could be dedicated to what Arme did to the inside of his Stang. But here are a few of the highlights: carbon fiber overlay on the floor. That’s right – not an inch of carpet here. Bolted to the floor are 1966 Mustang seats with Schroth belts. The rear seat was replaced with two Odyssey batteries. Custom-designed bezel and gauges are included and everything is controlled through an IPAD – that includes the power windows, locks, air suspension, as well as heat and A/C – because, well, why not?
