Legendary Pony Car

There's a reason why the first generation of the Mustang is as popular today as it has even been, if not more. The timeless beauty of the original pony car has inspired generations of automotive enthusiasts. And for as many folks who love to keep these classics as authentic as possible, there's also those who want to add some modern flair and performance to the gorgeous Mustang.

Restomod

The restomod featured in this slideshow is the handy work of one such rebel. The car was recently auctioned off at Mecum's Indianapolis event, which took place last month. The modernized 1965 convertible Mustang crossed the auction block at $71,500. At the time of sale, the build showed 1,600 miles on the odometer since completion.

Under the Hood

Under the hood of this beauty, you will find a Ford performance Aluminator Coyote V8 engine, tuned to put down 419 horsepower at the rear wheels. The mill is mated to a re-worked TKO 600 5-speed transmission. The power is then transferred to the wheels via a narrowed 9 inch rear with 31-spline axles and 3.89 Tru-Trac and Currie center section.
