Raking in Dough

In recent months, the automotive market has been on fire, and we aren't just talking about new and used cars. Collector cars are bringing in more and more money by the day as well, and the sale of this custom 1965 Ford Mustang fastback at Barrett-Jackson's recent Las Vegas sale is certainly proof of that.

Justifying the Price

The new owner ponied up a whopping $143k for the privilege of bringing this vintage pony car home, though, in all fairness, it probably cost at least that much to build it. This Mustang is loaded with upgraded parts and cool features that help it justify that lofty price tag, at least.

Formidable Powertrain

That starts under the hood, where you'll find a Roush 427 V8 crate motor that cranks out over 600 horsepower right out of the box. The big-inch mill is backed up by a six-speed manual transmission, which sends power back to a bulletproof Ford 9-inch rear end.

Modern Cabin

The interior of this classic Mustang has received a total overhaul as well, with a four-point roll bar, rear seat delete, Mercedes carpeting, Recaro seats, four-point seat belts, and a custom gauge cluster, all of which gives the cabin a decidedly modern appearance and feel.

Turn and Stop

The suspension has been upgraded as well, this time with Total Control Products coilovers, power rack & pinion steering, tubular control arms, and modified leaf springs. Baer brakes were added at all four corners to slow the whole thing down and feature six-piston front mono-block calipers.

Exterior Enhancements

The bodywork on this '65 is pure art, with wider, "Coke bottle" style front and rear fenders, a modified Cougar Eliminator hood scoop, custom front, and rear bumpers, and a custom red, white, and black paint job inspired by Ford's 1969 Trans Am racers.

Worth It?

Add it all up, and you've got one of the cooler and more unique classic Mustang restomods out there in the world. Whether or not that makes it worth $143k, well, that's really a matter of opinion. But at least one person thought so, and that's all that matters in the red hot collector car world.
