Indirect Replacement

As we bid farewell to the Shelby GT350, we say hello to the Mustang Mach 1. So it's fair to say the Mach 1 is an indirect replacement of sorts. Unlike the GT350, the Mack 1 will be sold throughout Europe and the UK.

Bridging the Gap

The idea is that the Mustang Mach 1 will bridge the gap between the current Mustang GT offered in Europe and the Shelby GT500. Like the GT350, the GT500 isn't available in the UK or throughout Europe.

Order Books Open

Ford's order books for the Mach 1 will open in early 2021. The starting price is expected to be around €58,000, which isn't too far off the mark when you consider the starting price of the Bullitt is €54,443.

It's Fast

Ford has said that the Mach 1 is "the fastest production Mustang around a track ever offered to customers in Europe.". The model gets to 60 mph in a blistering 4.2 seconds and will keep going all the way to 163 mph. This equates to a standing quarter-mile time of 12.2 seconds.

Under the Hood

Propelling this beast is an uprated version of Mustang's 5.0-liter V8 engine. This unit pumps out an impressive 454 hp and 390 ft-lb of torque. The added power is thanks to an intake manifold, oil cooler, and oil filter adapter taken from the Shelby GT350. All the power is either sent through a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Premium Look

The Mach 1 rides on a set of 19-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels. These alloys were inspired by the Magnum 500s on the original Mach 1. The shark-nosed front end isn't just a stylistic upgrade: it's performance-based too. The unique front-end combined with an extended underbody chassis tray offers 22% more downforce than a Mustang GT with the performance pack.

Handling Package

If you're getting the 6-speed manual transmission version, you can add an optional Handling Package. This package includes a larger front splitter, reshaped front wheel lip moldings, a gurney flap, and tire spats from the Shelby GT500. Overall this package helps to increase downforce by 128% when compared to the Mustang GT. The tires at the front and rear also gain an additional 1-inch in width with this package.
