Mustang GTs Reborn as Law Enforcement Drug Interceptors
The Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende brings in two fast horses ready for any high-speed chase.
Car Chase
The Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende recently purchased two new Mustang GTs to serve as high-speed police interceptors. In an effort to overtake drug traffickers and thwart other crimes, the Mustangs have been outfitted for effective law enforcement duty. Some police departments in the United States currently use Mustangs and not always as a backdrop for a public relations photo oppurtuinities.

V8 Interceptors
Dodge has a huge presence in police forces across the United States. The 2020 Dodge Charger Pursuit has a 5.7-liter V8 that pushes 370 horsepower and 395-pound feet of torque. Although Chargers may be the current go-to-car for law enforcement, certain police departments have also employed Camaros and Mustangs as their high-speed pursuit units.

The Right Horse for the Chase
A standard, 2020 Mustang GT has a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine that is rated at 460 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. That clocks the Mustang in with almost 100 more horses than its Dodge crime-fighting counterpart. Keep in mind that those specs are for commercially available Mustangs, not specially modified pursuit vehicles. Companies like Hennessey and Brown Lee Performance are producing special edition 2020 Mustang GTs with 808 horsepower that can hit 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds. If San Miguel de Allende’s police units have superchargers or other upgrades, they are going to be hell to outrun.

Crime Fighters
The city of San Miguel de Allende has assigned the Mustangs to two specially trained police officers. The cars are already cruising the arterial roads of the city and are integrated into an upgraded surveillance and communication system. This means that the Mustangs won’t solely be used to chase down drug runners. The cars will likely be the first vehicles responding to other crimes reported in the area.

Paying the Bills
The city of San Miguel de Allende’s police department purchased the Mustangs with proceeds generated from a new property tax. This tax also allowed San Miguel de Allende’s police officers to receive a 10 percent raise, currently making them the highest-paid police officers in Guanajuato.
