2019

The new GT500 will be shown in 2019 with details being held back at the moment. The unveiling will take place in Detroit with a whirlwind of rumors from everything from the engine's form of induction to the predicted power output of the engine.

Horsepower

No rumors can be confirmed right now, but it’s a solid speculation that in order to keep up with rivals like Chevrolet, this car will need to produce a minimum of 700 horsepower. This number would allow the car to run a quarter mile in the 10s and take some serious fight to the opposition.

Known For Sure

What is known for sure, is the size of the engine. A 5.2 liter V8 will be employed with either a cross-plane or flat-plane crankshaft being used. A cross-plane would likely keep costs down and wouldn’t rev as high as the flat-plane, but would give a nasty sound that is signature Mustang.

Price Point

The price isn’t known, though we can speculate based on what the GT350 and GT350R cost. As this is a domestic product, it would make sense to see the GT500 priced in the high $60,000 or low $70,000 range, with options galore to bump up sticker prices and revenue for dealers.

Performance

With the current crop of American muscle offering substantial performance on the street and track, this new GT500 should be expected to run to 60 in the low 3-second range with a sprint to 100 getting done in close to 8 seconds. Nurburgring times (if tested) should be somewhere in the mid-7-minute mark for this car to be competitive.

GT500R?

We can only hope the new GT500 has 700 horsepower as the R version has always topped the base model by miles. Whatever they decide to build, the next GT500R will undoubtedly be a car that puts Ford at the forefront of sports car technology and lap times. It will be great to see American cars dominating race tracks in Europe and traffic lights across the States come 2020. Hope you’re looking forward to this car as much as we are. Cheers.
