Auction Time Capsules

A pair of late-2000s Shelby GT500 Mustangs are about to cross the auction block, notable less for rarity alone and more for how little they’ve been driven. Both cars show what collectors often call “delivery mileage,” effectively preserving them in near-new condition nearly two decades after production. For enthusiasts, they represent a snapshot of the era when Ford reintroduced serious factory muscle into the modern Mustang lineup.

The 11-Mile GT500

The first car is a red 2007 Shelby GT500 with white racing stripes, built in 2006 and showing only 11 miles on the odometer. Originally priced at $43,570, its sticker would translate to roughly $70,000 today after inflation adjustments. Auction details offer little information about ownership history or long-term storage conditions, leaving unanswered questions about how the car has been maintained since delivery.

Stored, Not Driven

Ultra-low-mileage cars often look ideal on paper, but prolonged inactivity can create mechanical concerns. Fluids degrade, seals dry out, and tires and rubber components age even if the car hasn’t been driven. Any future owner intending to actually drive the vehicle would likely need a full inspection and recommissioning. Realistically, though, cars preserved in this condition are often treated as investment pieces rather than road-going machines.

Still a Serious Performer

Even by current standards, the 2007 GT500 remains formidable. Under the hood sits a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, figures that helped reestablish the Shelby name in Ford’s modern performance lineup. At the time, it stood among the most powerful factory Mustangs ever offered, blending retro-inspired styling with contemporary muscle.

The Rarer GT500KR

The second car headed to auction could attract even more attention. It’s a 2009 Shelby GT500KR, short for “King of the Road”, built in 2008 and limited to just 712 units for that model year. Finished in silver with blue stripes and showing only 25 miles, the car has remained with its original owner since new. The KR package pushed output to 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque while adding suspension revisions, a front strut tower brace, a carbon-fiber hood, and a distinct exhaust system, making it the most extreme GT500 of its era.

Prices Then and Now

The GT500KR commanded a steep price when new. Its base MSRP of $46,890 rose to $82,555 once the KR package and a $2,100 gas-guzzler tax were included, equivalent to roughly $122,000 today after inflation. With production limited and mileage extremely low, examples like this rarely surface, making the upcoming auction a noteworthy event for collectors tracking modern Shelby values.
