Shelby Tosses Out a Bundle of Snakes for Brave Enthusiasts

Carroll Shelby Turns 98

Icon of racing and the Automotive industry, Carroll Shelby would be turning 98 this year. And although he's no longer with us, the company he created is carrying on his tradition of excellence. And for the new model year, they are offering a limited production run of 98 units for each of their Shelby American Mustangs, in honor of Carroll's birthday.

Bundle of Snakes

The Shelby American lineup will include three Shelby Mustangs with three different levels of performance. The company recognized that the Mustang is a brilliant automobile in stock form. That's why they want to offer a diverse lineup of enhanced Mustangs to make sure there's one for every enthusiast in what they're calling their "bundle of snakes!"

Three Monsters

The lineup includes the Shelby GT for a (relatively) more casual cruising, the Shelby GT 500 SE for more hardcore drivers, and the top-of-the-line Shelby Super Snake. The GT 500 SE boasts more than 800 horsepower and features signature Shelby styling and suspension enhancements.

Super Snake Speedster

The Shelby Super Snake, the builder's crown jewel, squeezes the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 to 825 horsepower with ease. Plus, it has the option of a manual transmission available. The top-shelf Shelby starts at $133,785. Most notably, the Super Snake now has a Speedster variant, pictures in this slideshow.

Open-Air Shelby Experience

The Shelby Super Snake Speedster is perhaps the most mouth-watering Shelby ever. The rear seats are removed and a beautifully styled convertible tonneau cover braces the driver and passenger seats. Like the coupe, the Speedster features a wide-body design, as well as a Penske track suspension.

Spirit of Shelby

Shelby American president Gary Patterson is proud of the company's expanded lineup for the 2021 model year, and the fact that they "can offer something for everyone who dreams of owning a high-performance Shelby." The new Speedster is unquestionably the highlight of the lineup. And it's great to see Shelby American continue to innovate and keep Carroll's spirit alive in their products.
