2007 Mustang Shelby GT500 - 500 Horsepower

One of, if not the most iconic modern muscle cars, the fifth-generation Mustang Shelby GT500 was a major hit in many ways. The retro styling of the S197 Mustang breathed new life into the nameplate and the reintroduction of the Shelby GT500 brought us a 500-horsepower monster that took the world by storm. These early fifth-gen GT500s are still show-stealers wherever they may roam. 

2018 Mustang Shelby GT350 - 526 Horsepower

With a high-revving V8 that is sure to leave a smile on the faces of any muscle car enthusiast, Ford's most recent GT350 and GT350 R may have been the last true drivers' car Mustang to have been produced. The manual transmission gives these pony cars a ton of character.

2010-2012 Mustang Shelby GT500 - 540-550 Horsepower

With a facelift of the S197 Mustang also came a revamped version of the GT500. This meant a healthy bump in horsepower. Initially, it was offered with 540 horses but the manufacturer nudged that up to 550 for the 2011 and 2012 models. 

2013-2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 - 662 Horsepower

After several years of living in the 500s, Ford went bananas with their 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 offering, which got a massive boost of power over its predecessor, courtesy of a new 5.8-liter Aluminum block V8. This monstrous mill put down 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque. Certainly more than enough force for any driver to contend with.

2020 S550 Mustang Shelby GT500 - 760 Horsepower

And that brings us to the most powerful production Mustang to date: The S550 Mustang Shelby GT500. Engineered as a true track-focused machine, the GT500 has been given as much attention in the handling department as it has its insane 760-horsepower plant. As the new S650 Mustang makes its way to the market in the coming months, we await even more powerful variants to make their way into this list as time goes on.
