Ford Is Now Discounting Mustangs After Steep Sales Decline

The 2024 Mustang GT gets double the incentive of the EcoBoost, making it an enticing option before prices rise for 2025.

Bigger Discounts for the V8-Powered Mustang

For a limited time, Ford is offering discounts on its 2024 Mustang models, with the V8-powered GT receiving a more significant price cut than its four-cylinder EcoBoost counterpart. Buyers can get a $1,000 incentive on the EcoBoost, but those opting for the Mustang GT will receive a $2,000 discount. This means the GT, which starts at $43,090, effectively drops to $41,090, while the EcoBoost comes down to $30,920.

Mustang GT’s Performance Advantage

The pricing difference might still seem substantial, but the GT’s naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 delivers 480 horsepower, compared to the EcoBoost’s 315 hp. That translates to just $60 per additional horsepower, making the upgrade more justifiable for performance enthusiasts. Another factor in the GT’s favor is the availability of a manual transmission—something not offered on the automatic-only EcoBoost models.

With the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger now discontinued, the Mustang stands alone in the affordable V8 muscle car segment. This makes the current deals particularly notable, as the landscape for traditional American performance cars continues to shrink.

2025 Model Year Brings a Price Hike

One key reason Ford may be offering these discounts is the upcoming price jump for 2025 models. The base price of the 2025 Mustang GT is set at $46,560—significantly more than the discounted 2024 model. Even with the $2,000 incentive, a 2025 Mustang GT still costs more than the 2024 version without incentives.

The discounts come as Mustang sales have taken a sharp dive. Ford reported a 36.4% decline in sales for January and a 32.2% drop in February compared to the previous year. In total, only 5,191 Mustangs were sold in the first two months of the year, compared to 7,886 during the same period in 2024. These figures likely influenced Ford’s decision to introduce incentives, making the Mustang GT more appealing to potential buyers.

Limited-Time Offers on 2024 Models

Ford’s discounts are only available in select markets and are expected to last until the end of the month or until inventory runs out. With the 2025 price increase looming, this may be the last chance to get a V8 Mustang at a more reasonable price before costs climb even higher.
