New and Old

A few years ago, a company called Charge Cars announced that it would be building and selling brand-new, all-electric versions of the first-generation Ford Mustang. At that time, the company revealed some pretty enticing details about this electrified classic pony car, which is essentially a brand-new vehicle with vintage looks - the perfect combination, we'd say. Now, Charge Cars has announced that it has won the right to make its own reproduction 1967 Mustang bodies, to boot.

Major Step

Charge Cars was recently awarded the rights to reproduce 1967 Ford Mustang bodies, which means that it won't have to rely on sourcing original shells or purchasing reproduction parts from another company. "This agreement allows us to design and manufacture the '67 fully in-house," the company said in a statement. "This partnership is a major step, giving us the confidence to keep pioneering innovative solutions and pushing the boundaries in automotive and technology."

Serious Performance

With that little problem solved, Charge can move forward with its plans to build what could be the ultimate EV version of the classic pony car. The Charge Cars '67 utilizes a total of four electric motors churning out a combined 536 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque, which enables it to rocket from 0-60 mph in just 3.99 seconds.

With a 63 kWh battery pack mounted in the center portion of the chassis, the Charge Cars '67 can also travel around 200 miles on a single charge, which is perfectly acceptable for a car that most owners will drive sparingly - or perhaps even to work on a daily basis, which is quite doable given its plethora of amenities and comfy looking interior.

Loads of Amenities

While it retains some of its classic styling, the interior of the Charge Cars '67 is decidedly modern in nature, from its cushy seats to its two-tone color scheme to the infotainment screen mounted in the center of the dash. There's even a wireless phone charger in the center console, giving owners all the niceties they'd expect to see in a new vehicle.

Clean and Simple

On the outside, the '67 looks a lot like any old nicely done restomod of this era, but it also utilizes composite materials in its construction, helping to shed weight and improve performance. LED lighting and a set of larger wheels and tires complete the look, which is quite clean and simple by anyone's standards - no need to reinvent the wheel when you're talking about one of the most beautiful cars ever made, after all.

Pricey and Rare

As one might imagine, there is one big caveat associated with the Charge Cars '67 - it won't be cheap, nor will it be plentiful. The company plans to build just 499 units in total, each with a price tag of $424,870. That's obviously a ton of money for any car, but in all fairness, the Charge Cars '67 is unlike anything else out there at the moment.
